Hi Anna!
Well, there's a very famous colombian writer named Gabriel García Márquez. I believe that most of his books take place in Macondo, an imaginary place which characteristics resemble traditional towns of the coastal region of Colombia.
He actually got a novel prize for a book named Cien años de soledad (100 years of solitudeness) and unfortunately I have not read it yet (his style is sometimes too descriptive for my taste). Some of his books I really enjoyed were El coronel no tiene quien le escriba, crónica de una muerte anunciada y La mala hora. However, he's written many other books, so you can actually choose one according to your own taste.
Regards,
Gloria
PS. I strongly recommend you to read them in spanish, if possible.
Mbl
